Western Pro Plus Snow Plow
Ford F-250 Super Duty
2011-2016
So, you’re looking to buy a new snow plow for your 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, or 2016 Ford F-250 Super Duty, and want to know whether the Western Pro Plus fits your truck and meets your plowing
needs.
You also probably want to know how easy it is to mount and dismount. Will you need to make
permanent modifications to your truck to use the plow? How easy is the plow to control? We’ll dive into all
of these questions to help you feel confident in choosing the right snow plow for you.
The Pro Plus has 4 heavy-duty coil springs that allow the blade to trip when
it hits an obstacle, extending the lifespan of your plow and truck.
What's Western's Pro Plus Plow's Place in the Market?
As you know, there are basically 3 types of snow plows:
1. Straight Blade Plows
(such as the Pro Plus)
2. V-Plows
3. Expandable Plows
About Straight Blades: Straight Blade
plows like the Pro Plus are by far the most common style of snow plow. They've been around the longest
and although they aren't the fanciest knife in the drawer, they’ve proven to get the job
done.
You could use a quality straight blade plow for just about any application, however they are
ideal for clearing large, open spaces, such as long driveways or a parking lot. The versatility and ease of
use of a straight blade plow makes them ideal for many commercial snow plow operators.
Also, for the
budget conscious, straight blades such as Western’s Pro Plus are the least expensive when choosing between
V-Plows, Straight Blades or Expandable Plows.
But, not all straight blade plows are created equal,
and not all are designed for every vehicle application. We’ll get into that below.
The Western Pro Plus is available in 8', 8.5', and 9' options.
What you Need to Know about the Pro Plus
Western’s Pro Plus straight blade is a contractor grade plow that has a 31.5” tall
moldboard made from 12-gauge steel, and is available in 3 different sizes: 8’, 8.5’, and 9’.
What
makes the Pro Plus a contractor grade plow?
The Pro Plus’s moldboard is taller than a light use,
personal plow, allowing it to contain more snow. To back that up, Western has reinforced the moldboard with
8 vertical ribs, a heavy duty quadrant and the exclusive Western Power Bar to eliminate blade twisting and
buckling under load. This means the Pro Plus can handle pretty much any snow load that will fit in its
blade.
What about impact protection?
When pushing snow, you’re likely to hit chunks of
pavement, curbs, ice and other debris hidden under the snow’s surface. The plow’s ability to withstand that
impact is one of the differences between contractor grade and personal plows.
The Pro Plus has 4
heavy-duty coil springs that allow the blade to trip when it hits an obstacle, along with dual shock
absorbers that soften the tripped blade’s return, protecting and extending the lifespan of your plow and
truck.

Is mounting and dismounting the Pro Plus a hassle? Will it look good on your truck?
The Pro Plus uses Western’s fully mechanical UltraMount 2 system. The plow receiver
mounts underneath your truck’s front bumper and features easily removable brackets when it comes time for
the off-season.
The UltraMount is very discreet, unless someone is looking for it, most people
won’t notice the mount when the blade isn’t attached.
How does the UltraMount 2 system work?
Attaching the plow is simple: once your truck is in position, release the shoe handle, remove the lock pin
and rotate the assembly up. Once you’ve done that for both sides, plug in the electrical connections
and…you’re done!
Detaching the plow is just as easy. Unplug the electrical connections, pull the
lock pin, rotate the assembly, then push the shoes back down.
With both a handheld CabCommand
push-button controller and a smaller joystick controller, Western lets you choose which interface style is
the best fit for you.
Which Pickup Trucks is the Pro Plus for?
With 3 different blade sizes available, the Pro Plus is designed to fit a wide range of vehicles, from
class
2 - 5 trucks to skid-steers and tractors.
In OUR experience, the Pro Plus fits most configurations of
both gasoline and diesel Ford F-250 Super Dutys. In fact, it’s one of our favorite plows to recommend
for
commercial use - both for independent snow removal contractors and larger commercial fleets.
Note
that
in general, the Pro Plus will not fit most half ton trucks. This is because adding an additional
thousand pounds of weight to the front of a vehicle causes the configuration to surpass most half ton’s
gross
axle and front axle weight rating.
These plows are rigorously tested to ensure that both plow and
truck
can still operate safely under both normal driving and plowing conditions, without exceeding the
weight rating of your front axle.
At the end of this article you’ll find a generalized list of Year,
Make and Models that the Pro Plus will fit. However, things like cab size, bed length and Axle Weight Rating
all play into account.

Important: In
addition to knowing your cab configuration, bed length, engine type and size, you’ll also need to know your
axle weight ratings. If you’re not sure how to find this or have other questions on how to
make sure a plow fits your truck, we’ve put together a video you can view from this page below.
